My first planetary photograph of 2017.
I managed to get a great shot of Luna with the bright planet Venus and Mars just past sunset. The moon had been between the planets the day before, but cloud cover prevented me from getting any decent photos of the procession of the moon over three days of rising from the west and crossing the planets.
Still I did manage to get this wonderful shot between the trees and just above the street light.
Venus is some 100 times brighter than Mars, and the Red Planet appears quite small, but still noticeable for it's distinctly reddish color. Luna is just past the crescent and waxing toward the first First Quarter Moon on January 5th.
