Attending The Battle Of Aiken Reenactment 2018 -- Part One

Greetings Y'all!

On Saturday, February 24th, my travels took me south to Aiken County, South Carolina to attend the annual Battle of Aiken reenactment.

Sponsored by the Brig. Gen. Bernard E. Bee Jr. Camp #1575 Sons of Confederate Veterans, this reenactment annually draws tens of thousands of people each year, and provides a number of educational living history displays.

This blog post is part one of three posts detailing what this blogger witnessed at the reenactment that day through photographs taken.

The newly built Confederate Soldiers Monument at
the Battle of Aiken Park near Aiken, SC.
The monument was erected in September 2017 by the
Brig. General Barnard E. Bee Jr. Camp #1575 Sons of
Confederate Veterans.

This year on site there was a beautiful memorial set up for US service dogs that were involved in America's Wars, particularly the 4,000 dogs that took part in the Vietnam conflict 1964 - 1975.

Also among the displays at the event was an outstanding Military Timeline that included a replica military camp of the type used by US soldiers during the Vietnam War. This included a number of outstanding military artifacts and displays, as well as some great US military reenactors.
The Dixie Cross banner was often seen in period photographs
from the Vietnam War ear. Despite the ugly misuse of the
South's banner by segregationists and hate groups during the
1960s, US servicemen from Southern States often brought the
flag with themas reminders of home -- the proper modern use
for our honorable banner.

Ready....Aim....

Well folks, this concludes part one of my photojournalism post on the Battle of Aiken Reenactment 2018. The second part will be coming up next.
