Town Of Clover Highland Games 2018

Greetings Y'all!

On Saturday, November 10th, my travels took me to the small town of Clover, South Carolina for the 22nd Annual Feis Cohbair Clover Highland Games.

Long before the American Revolution, the Carolinas were settled by European colonists from Scotland and Ireland who brought with them their rich cultural heritage and traditions, which today serve as an integral part of the area's Southern and American heritage. The Scots-Irish (or Ulster Scots) in particular set their roots here in the Carolinas as early as 150 years before the events of the American Revolution.

One of those traditions was an annual Gathering. These Gatherings were an opportunity for communities to come together, trades to be made, disputes settled, rents paid to the Laird, as well as loyalties ascertained, followed by games held with the intent to select the best warriors within each family clan.

Overall, the purpose of Highland Games like the annual Feis Cobhair games in Clover and others is to not only continue some of those unique traditions brought here by those original Scottish and Irish colonists, but to educate people on those traditions and bring people together as a community though them.

The games consist of various tests of strength and endurance, as well as Scottish Border Collie demonstrations, Celtic music, food, and much more.

The following are photos taken by this blogger during this year's Highland Games in downtown Clover, SC.

Once again I hope y'all enjoyed my photo presentation. Have a wonderful Dixie Day, and y'all come back now, ya hear?
