War Between The States Reenactment At Historic Brattonsville

On Saturday, October 24th, I traveled about fourteen miles up US Route 321 to Historic Brattonsville in beautiful McConnells, in York County, South Carolina for the annual War Between The States (American Civil War) Reenactment. 

There was no actual battle of the Civil War near the site of Historic Brattonsville - although there was in fact a small but important Revolutionary War battle near the site in July of 1780, but I will post about that one another time. Indeed, even in the latter half of Sherman's Carolina Campaign in 1865, invading Union soldiers did not even come through York County.

The battle demonstration that takes place here annually in the latter half of October is more or less for the public, sponsored by Historic Brattonsville and the York County Historical Society among others to educate people about the type of fighting in the war, the camp life of the soldiers who served on both sides, and their weapons. 

Here are the photos I managed to get of the first day of the battle, including the firing of the Chester Parrott Rifle Cannon brought in by the Chester County Historical Society for the event. 

A very special thanks to the War Between the States living history reenactment groups who were involved and provided the battle demonstration, particularly the hosts of the event the 6th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers. You guys do an awesome job educating the public and your devotion to history is commendable. Well done!
