Brown Thrasher Family In My Backyard

A few weeks ago when I'd cut the grass in my backyard, a small family of Brown Thrashers (Toxostoma rufum) showed up to pick through the newly cut grass to hunt for exposed bugs and worms, or in the case of one juvenile, cool off in a small mud puddle. They also picked though my backyard bird feeders looking for the good seeds.

The Brown Thrasher is the official State Bird of the U.S. State of Georgia and is found year around in that state and the Carolinas.

Here are the photos I took of these lovely feathered visitors around July 10th of this year. 

 

White-tailed Deer Fawns Visiting My Backyard

Greetings & Salutations, Y'all!

Yesterday afternoon, I found two lovely new visitors to my backyard, a pair of juvenile White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus). These two young fawns hung around in my yard for about ten minutes before heading back into the woods. White-tailed deer are among the most common deer native to both North and South America.

Both of these beautiful creatures are still very young because they have their white spots, which are their natural camouflage. White-tail fawns do not lose these spots until they are around four months old and their coats turn a solid brown, which will happen the closer we get to autumn.

I usually get deer visitors to my backyard year around but only see them from time-to-time. I didn't see any signs of an adult nearby, so I wonder if these two siblings were on their own?
